I’ve written hundreds of news stories, features, profiles,
FOBs and columns for a variety of print media. My journalistic
approach is old school—thorough, accurate, concise—though
my ideas and writing style meet the needs and interests of
today’s busy reader.
I’ve enjoyed all sorts of interesting adventures—discovering
Hemingway’s Paris, squeezing through Vietnam’s
Cu Chi Tunnels, exploring Belfast’s war-torn neighborhoods—and
have met all sorts of interesting people—artists, entrepreneurs,
activists—while pursuing stories over the past several
decades.

Montreal is Magnifique
On our first day in Montreal, the tour guide guide dutifully
pointed out the major attractions we should visit, from
the venerable Notre Dame Basilica to the modernistic Olympic
Stadium. “And what’s your favorite
thing to do here?” I wanted to know. “Why,
we love three-hour lunches, we love to talk,” she
said. “You come to Montreal to enjoy life—for
la joie de vivre.” We discovered she
was right.

Home & Away
Iowa to the Core
Iowa is the nation’s number-one producer of corn
and soybeans. But there’s another, lesser-known
crop that’s especially appealing in the fall. Apples,
including Jonathan, Red Delicious and dozens of other
varieties, thrive in orchards scattered across the state.
Many of these orchards are popular autumn destinations,
where you can pick your own apples, go on hayrides, shop
for gifts and enjoy other activities.
